Cool Fool was premiered on Sunday, Jan 31st, 2010 at Club Drom in the East Village NYC. The event "Composers Play Composers" was sponsored by the Composers Concordance. Jennifer Morette played the violin and I played the piano.

The piece is inspired in equal parts by the "Cool" jazz from the 50's, my love of the classic big bands, and Porgy and Bess. In spite of its obvious Jazz influence, it is a totally "composed" piece with all the notes accounted for. There is no need for either the violinist or pianist to improvise, although there is a certain amount of "back phrasing" which is desirable in both the main tune and the coda. These issues are specifically addressed in the notes which will accompany the Score.

The piece is dedicated to my dear friend and colleague, Gary Schneider, who had much to do with all these elements coming together.
